Paper strips idea #3- Petting Zoo layout (with process video)

Happy Friday friends. Today I'm sharing the final layout for my "Paper strip idea" series. I hope that you've enjoyed this little idea share that I made this month. I hope to do it again next month. Do you have any suggestion of topic I should tackle?

This layout used strips as a simple horizontal background. The variation that I did was cut them in different widths as well as add a piece with scallop edge. The differences in width made for a more interesting background.

Pin To Done- Diaper and Wipe Fabric Case

Hello crafty friends. If you remember last month, I introduced a new monthly share called "pin to done". This is my attempt to learn something new and also to get some of those projects that I've pinned checked off. 

This month's project is this diaper and wipe carrying case made with fabric. Although I have a large diaper bag that carries all of my baby essentials, I found that my diapers gets lost underneath all of the clothes and blankets and it takes time to shuffle in the bag to retrieve them. This little case makes changing diapers fast and efficient.

I liked how easy her tutorial was. Had some leftover fabrics from making Mason's rag quilt so I used that.

This is one of those projects that can be done in less than two hours, including cutting the fabric, ironing the pieces and sewing. Here are some more close ups...

Paper strips idea #2- Hello new specs (plus process video)

Hello again my dear friends. Today I'm sharing the second way I use my paper strips. 

This one was actually inspired by this paper... 

I watched a few You Tubers use this paper and it inspired me to use the design on my next paper strip layout.

I love how the slanted edges of the paper creates movement in the page but still lets me get a lot of strips and designs into the layout.

Paper strip idea #1- Our Little Picasso layout

Hi there friends. Today I'm sharing a layout that is the first layout of a three part series share that I'm going to try out on the blog. I would like to share ideas on how to use your scrapbook supplies and I will give you three ways to use it. Kinda like in fashion where you see a piece of clothing that can be dressed up in three different ways. I hope you will like this new theme/idea that I will trying out every month. Make sure you subscribe to this blog and/or to my You Tube channel (links on the right side bar) to be informed as new posts come up.

Here's my layout...

The idea that I would like to first share with you are three ways to use paper strips on your layouts. The first idea would be to use them as skinny strips, weaved together.

I used two different types of letter stickers for my title and added some arrow stickers to point to the photo.

I also added some stickers, die cut tabs and flairs for my accents.

Because this is about my son's artwork, I wanted to add some artistic designs on the page. I used an old round container, added paint on the rim/edge of the container and then stamped that on the page.

Garden Harvest layout

Happy Wednesday friends. Today I'm sharing a layout, along with a process video, about one of the things that I love about summer. I've enjoyed gardening over the years. I started when my daughter was about 2 years old and she's going to be 10 this year. Even during my most pregnant months last year, I managed to grow a few zucchinis and corn. 

This layout was created with a couple of challenges in mind. The first one is this sketch from Stuck On U Sketches which can be found here. 

The second one is based off of the challenge of using a product collection that you love and the theme of the layout is about something you love. It is from the Facebook group called Nicole Jones 911. This group has been one of my favorites lately. The members are awesome and so kind with their comments and suggestions.

First Pocket Scrapbooking layout (Picture Perfect)

Hello friends and happy Friday. Well I spoke too soon. Our week has gotten more "exciting" since my last post. Yesterday I took my daughter to the doctor's because she was complaining of a sore throat and she had a fever the day before. Well to our disappointment, she tested positive for strep throat. Thankfully now she's on antibiotics but has to stay home from school for another day, which doesn't make her too happy. She's my child that actually loves school.  Life sure is full of surprises. 

Speaking of surprises, I told myself that I wouldn't jump into the pocket/project life type of scrapbooking. I liked my 12x12 format. But then I started planning for Mason's baby album and I found a d-ring album that I got from SEI. It was a good size and already had some sheet protectors in it. The only thing was that half of the protectors were made for pocket scrapbooking. I thought about buying a different album but I also thought that this product needs to be used, otherwise it is just a wasted item. So with that, I made a big gulp and present you my first ever pocket/project life scrapbook layout...

We are so excited layout + process video

What a week and it's only Wednesday. My son Marcus had a procedure done yesterday and the day before that, I had to go do a certain medical imaging as well and so my "worry" level was shooting up the scale. Thankfully everything went ok and so now I'm just crossing my fingers that the rest of the week will be quiet and stress free. 

Speaking of quiet, I found some "pockets" of quiet time recently where I didn't have any pressing deadline to meet so I decided to start on Mason's baby album. I don't have all of the pictures printed but I thought I'd start with his newborn pics.

About 3/4 from getting this page done, Mason woke up so I had to do the rest of the page with one hand. That's why the outline of the letters are a little bit messy, but i'm ok with it. I figured, it's not going to be the first thing he'll notice once he can start looking through his book.

I added some glitter glue to some die cut stars to add some "shine" to the accent.

I love this cut apart piece. It sums up how we all felt when Mason was born.

Family Update- January 2015

I can't believe that January 2015 is almost over. Here are some of the highlights of our month...

This year, we decided to set goals. Mitch and I wrote some personal one and encouraged the two older kids to do some as well. Some of my goals this year was to organize more, loose weight and scrapbook more. I made some progress in all areas and the three photos below shows them...

 I worked on organizing my clothes and found out that I'm a bit addicted to camis and tank tops. I love the rainbow of colors that I see in this container.

Green smoothies are my favorite. This time I opted to use water instead of milk or yogurt to keep the calories down and I also added some oats for added fiber.

I had all of the intention to check off all of the cabinets in the kitchen but alas, I bit more than I can chew and only got the food cabinets reorganized.

The above picture is a Sunday meal of Elk meat roast with some mashed potatoes and veggies. Mitch didn't catch any Elk this past season but his hunting buddy was kind enough to share some with us from a previous hunt. This is our first time to eat Elk meat and I have to say, it was pretty good.

January was also a month full of snowy days. We haven't had any "snow days" from school, just lots of 2 hour delays but the kids still enjoyed the little break they got. I have to say, this is our 5th winter in Colorado and I am still in awe of the beauty of this area when it's surrounded by snow. I don't like to go out and drive around it but I marvel at the beauty at the comforts of my warm home.

This month, Marcus got his first rank advancement in Boy Scouts. He finished his tenderfoot ranking and was recognized during this month's court of honor. I already told him that we will shoot for Eagle scouts for him. We shall see. 

 And finally, updates on our little guy. Mason turned 5 months this past week and he is growing, literally and figuratively, in sensed of the word.
This month...
-We are slowly introducing him to solid foods. He's been eating about every other day (just one meal) because we didn't want him to be constipated. We can tell he is so anxious to eat regular foods though as his eyes always get big when he sees us eat.
-We found his ticklish parts and we love making him laugh and giggle when we play and tickle him.
-His cries has graduated to screeches. And he mostly does it at the wee hours of the nights. I'm not sure why he prefers screeching but this kid sure can hit pretty high octaves.
-He is still not sleeping through the night but we are slowly getting into a routine where he sleeps for a straight 45 minute -1 hour at a time. It's been a life saver, especially since I have to do school work during the day.
-He loves to chew on everything now. Anything he picks up with his hand goes straight into his mouth. That is usually his toys,  burp cloth, his own hands and sometimes my finger.

So there you have it. Our January in a nutshell.

Book Review- Life's Golden Ticket

Another thing that I would like to make a monthly post in this blog are book reviews. Over the past years, I've become a bookworm. Although lately, I am not able to enjoy reading as much as I did in the past because of school but when I can, I try to dive into a good fiction title at least once a month. 

I hope to share some of my recent reads here and I hope you will share your favorite titles in the comment section below as well. I like to add them to my "to-read" list in GoodReads.

My review: 

I read this book over the Winter break and the story line was so engaging and touching that I finished it in three days. I love how the story line helps me, as a reader, to take stock on my life and the track that I'm threading. My favorite part of the book was in the beginning when it was mentioned that  it's better to have a life of SUBSTANCE rather than a life of SUCCESS. It takes me back to a famous talk by a leader in my church named Dallin H. Oaks. You can find that here. There are always good things to reach out for, maybe even better things but the really best things to commit to is anything that would bring substance to our lives.
