Book Review- The Wedding Dress

Hi there friends. This month's book that I am reviewing is a novel from Rachel Hauck. I picked this up from my library in February. On a side note, I got this book in the large print version and my husband commented that he will be able to read this book without his glasses. I told him that I like reading large print books nowadays because of that same issue. I guess I'm just getting old. Ha!

The Wedding Dress

I liked the premise of a wedding dress worn by four different women in a span of 100 years. I never liked period pieces but with this one which bounced from the "now" to back then kept my interest. I also really liked how clean the book was. It didn't have any foul language or scenes/parts that are too slutty (I don't know how else to describe it?)

Over all I was very pleased with this read. It was light and sweet. Perfect break from all of my school readings.

Book Review- How Successful People Grow

Hi there friends. For this month's book review, I decided to share How Successful People Grow by John C. Maxwell. I got this book at the library in January. I signed up for their adult reading program (I don't know why don't do it in the summer though) and picked this one up mainly because it was a small book. I know it sounds like I'm cheating but if I had to read 8 books in a span of a month, I might as well be smart about my choices, right? 

Anyways, after a few chapters of the book, I am glad that I picked it up, even if it's for the wrong reasons. Since my one little word this year is LEARN, I thought this book will be perfect as I work on my OLW. 

This book is very inspirational and after each chapter, the author gives you some "challenges" to quickly apply what you've learned in that part of the book to whatever you wanted to be successful in. I feel like this book can be used by any one, in any field. 

Some of the things I jotted down from this book are:

"Creativity comes at the end of your comfort zone."

"Borrowed beliefs have no passion, therefore no power."

and when learning something new, I need to ask the following questions:

Where can I use this?

When can I use this?

Who needs to know this?

Good stuff, huh?

Book Review- Life's Golden Ticket

Another thing that I would like to make a monthly post in this blog are book reviews. Over the past years, I've become a bookworm. Although lately, I am not able to enjoy reading as much as I did in the past because of school but when I can, I try to dive into a good fiction title at least once a month. 

I hope to share some of my recent reads here and I hope you will share your favorite titles in the comment section below as well. I like to add them to my "to-read" list in GoodReads.

My review: 

I read this book over the Winter break and the story line was so engaging and touching that I finished it in three days. I love how the story line helps me, as a reader, to take stock on my life and the track that I'm threading. My favorite part of the book was in the beginning when it was mentioned that  it's better to have a life of SUBSTANCE rather than a life of SUCCESS. It takes me back to a famous talk by a leader in my church named Dallin H. Oaks. You can find that here. There are always good things to reach out for, maybe even better things but the really best things to commit to is anything that would bring substance to our lives.
