Oh my Monday

Hi there my friends. I got a few posts planned for this week but today, I'm starting off in a rather random fashion. I "officially" start my fall semester of school today and that makes me nervous. To add to that would be laundry, getting the house in order, some photo edits to accomplish and yada, yada, yada. If you are a mom who juggles so many things, then you know what I'm talking about. And if you're not a person who has a long list to do on Mondays...well...you are my hero!

So before I go off and try to check off all of those things on my list, I'd like to personally invite you to the first every Die Versions blog hop that starts tomorrow. Please come back to this blog tomorrow to learn more about what we have in store for you or visit the Die Versions blog here

and because I can't help but love how this video shows a "slight" resemblance....ok I'll be honest....it shows all of my obsession with Pinterest, I'll leave you with this. Watch it and tell me you don't have an inkling to create a board specifically with Paris/Carnival inspired projects. Warning...if you get the "Pinterest" craze then this will make you burst into laughter.

Happy Monday.

More July events revisited...

I know that it is already August but I can't help myself in doing one last post about July family stories. I always say "it's better late than never."

In July, I finally finished the "academic start" program for Brigham Young University, which is also called the Pathways program. Our facilitators were kind enough to host a small graduation party at their house and they even gave us certificates. It was a great way to end the school year.

What's next for me? I'm going to continue the online program this fall, taking two classes that will go towards my degree to be a teacher. Let's cross our fingers I can do this!

I can't believe my babies are growing up. They are at the age where they can go on "sleepovers." Where did the time go? In July my kids were invited to their first sleepover. It was with a good friend that has a boy and a girl that is the same age as my kids. Marcus and Maddie were super excited about this and it was nice to have some quiet time with hubby. Mitch and I got to have a peaceful dinner, we went for a walk and then watched one of the movies that we borrowed from the library. Things were so smooth until it was time to sleep. It was weird that I didn't get to tuck the kids in their own beds. I have to admit, this mama didn't sleep quite well as I thought about my babies. :(

In the morning, when I picked them up, I asked them if they missed me. They said "yeah" but you can tell that they had a blast at their friends house and they weren't really thinking about us, their folks. I'm already hurting at the thought of future goodbyes with these two as they go off in their own journeys, ie missions and college.

Even though there were some plants that didn't make it alive, my garden was mostly fruitful this year. Recently I was able to harvest some zucchinis, red potatoes and turnips. This was my first year to grow potatoes and zucchinis. I'm excited at the many things I can make with the zucchini.

And finally, our local library put on their annual Summer party to end their reading program. The kids and I attended this outdoor event and the above collage is a glimpse of what the kids got to do. We saw the helicopter but, like last year, Marcus was not interested in going in it because of the long line. They did get to try the firefighter's gurney (sp?). Plus we got to win some more coupons from local food places. We feel so blessed to have fun events like this to attend to in the area.

So there you have it. A quick run through of July events. Now our heads need to focus on getting ready for another school year. I can't believe it's in less than two weeks. Aaccckkk!

Thanks for stopping by.

Hello my name is....layout share

Happy Friday friends. Did you like the post yesterday? There are members of the design team for Inspired by Stamping that are participating in a blog hop today and I hope you check that out. I have another stamp release post tomorrow. :)

Today's share is a layout that I made with the latest Challenge Me Happy blog challenge in mind. I love the prompt, which is, to document the story behind the name. I chose mine. I love the story behind my first name, told to me by my mom but have never thought about documenting it. This challenge was really great for me to go through old photos and scrapbook something meaningful to me and my family.

Hello My Name Is....layout
I used some Inspired by Stamping banner stamps on this layout plus TONS of flowers. Did you know that IBS carry flowers as well? Oh yeah! And they are all p-r-e-t-t-y. I couldn't resist them so I ordered a bunch. A girl cannot have too many flowers, right?

I found the title and journaling block for my page from a paper from Vintage Stories line of Simple Stories. I added some pearls and rhinestone frame to add some more 'feminine' touch to the paper.

Since my photos are a variety from different periods of my life, I made sure I added dates on them. I used the Fancy frame die cut shape to cut out my tabs.

So that's my page for you today. I hope I was able to inspire you with this page and make you want to document important stories about names in your family.

Have a great weekend.

Grace

Why I Scrapbook...

Hi friends. Today I'm sharing a special weekend post. Its National Scrapbooking Day today and I wanted to be part of the celebration but in a different way.

In this post, I'd like to share my "selfish" reasons for why I love what I do and what keeps me motivated to continue on preserving my family’s stories and memories.

Before I run down through my list, let me talk about why I consider these reasons "selfish". I think with anything that you want to commit to and invest time and money on; you have to have deep rooted personal reasons on why you choose to spend your time on that specific thing. One wise woman once told me, "we all have 24 hours in a day; it just depends on how we use it that matters". So with that I don't feel guilty when I'd rather spend 2 hours in my craft room versus 2 hours working out. I know that physical activity is important but like what she said, we all have that time and we choose what we fill it up with.

Although most of my scrapbooks are filled with stories of my children, I also need to have my own personal reasons on continuing these books otherwise I will feel burnt out and get to the point where I don't want to touch another piece of paper for the rest of my life.

In short....I scrapbook, first and foremost, because I WANT TO! That's the only way I can get through the challenges and commitment that these hobby/craft/art form asks of me.

So with that let me run through my "selfish" reason on why I do what I do...

circa 2006

1. My mother was into genealogy at one point. She was doing really well finding some leads and names and then she hit a wall. Somebody told her that the only way she can continue is to actually go back to the Philippines and start scouring the records there. That's a tall order and sadly she had not been able to make big headways with that. On the other hand my father in law has compiled a good amount of names going up to the 1700's.  He put them together in a thick book and it’s sitting proudly on our book shelf.

I want to know my ancestors too but that's not happening right now so I told myself that the idea of not knowing the people that went before you will stop at my line. And that the family members that will go after me will not only know my name, where I was born and all that good stuff, but more importantly they will know who I loved, how I lived and what mattered most to me. That's all evident in every scrapbook page that I create.

circa 2008

2. I love my children but with the challenges of raising two very different human beings sometimes I don't show that to them. I will be honest here and say i'm not one of those moms that can get her point across to the child in a "nice, calm tone". But when they look at the books and scrapbook pages that I had created for them, my hope is that they will know that despite mom's nagging or shouting (yes I do that occasionally)  that I loved them with all the fiber of my being. Through my scrapbooks they will know that someone was paying close attention to their lives and making sure that each detail was captured and preserved.

circa 2010

3. Scrapbook/Paper Crafting is so much cheaper than therapy for me. We all have struggles in life and there are times when I feel like I can't take any more trial or set back. And in those days, the only way that can keep me from pulling my hair out (literally and figuratively) is if I quickly divert my attention to my papers, pictures and stories. Sometimes creating a simple card helps me through the day and then there are those moments when I seriously need to immerse myself in major paper projects so that I can feel the bright shine of hope again. I don't want to sound so sappy here but seriously, paper crafting has been my go-to for therapy and quiet time to gain the feelings of gratefulness and hope.

circa 2012

4. I discovered many more interests and "talents" through my love of paper crafting. Scrapbooking for me has become a spring board for many other opportunities that I never have thought about until I started this craft. It rekindled my love for photography and capturing moments. I am able to decorate my home with handmade items that reflect my personality without breaking the bank. Scrapbooking have improved my writing and teaching skills. And the best part...I have many more friends now because of Paper crafting. My blog friends are from all over the world and I always feel giddy when I see my blog tracker show views from the Philippines, Israel and just today from Russia. How neat is that?!

circa 2013

5. President Thomas S. Monson (Latter day Prophet) said "Choose your love. Love your choice" and with that my last reason for scrapbooking is simply because I'm choosing to commit my time, talent and voice to the art of it. I'm choosing to spend my time on creating pages that I pray will be valued by my children, their children, their children's children and so on.

I love my choice and in this National Scrapbook day I urge anyone that will be touched by this post and want to commit or recommit to scrapbooking to take that plunge and start today. If you need to know where to start...I'm just a comment or email away. I can help. :)

Thanks for stopping by.

Apps for Memory Preservation

Happy Friday friends. So about a month ago I jumped in and ungraded technologically with an Ipod touch. While I'm still new to all of this technology I have found that there are a few apps (applications) that are helping me in my journey in preserving memories and I thought I'd share them with you today.

We all have our favorites apps. Some are very important and useful to our everyday and some are fun like games and social apps. Well I discovered a few ones that has been a great tool for my scrapbooking and memory preservation..

Light meter- I found this great one to be very helpful when I'm shooting. I love how it cuts the time of me playing around with my camera settings at a photo session. Even if you are not a photographer, just taking pictures for the family, having this app will allow you to have more time shooting and less time figuring the numbers out.

Happier- I love this app. I use this one as a mini journal. It allows you to jot down something that you are thankful for on that day. I love how it helps me with my journaling, getting me to jot down some quick bits of memories or things that I'm grateful for and it even saves the day that I wrote my memories down. I'm thinking that this would be great once I'm ready to scrapbook a specific memory or a bunch of memories in one page.

Two peas in a bucket- I love how this app allows me to get inspiration right at my finger tips. I'm usually browsing the gallery when I'm somewhere far from my computer or if I'm in my scrapbook room and need a quick jolt of inspiration or ideas for my next project.

55,000 Amazing Quotes- This fulfills my obsession with witty phrases and words. I love quotes. They are the perfect combination of inspiration and knowledge. Somehow, I don't consider myself good at words so I'm always looking at what other's are saying and add it to my projects.

You tube- You might think, well I don't have the time to watch cute kitten videos but wait...did you know that there are great papercrafting tutorials in there too? I've even started doing video tutorials and you can see them all in my Youtube channel here

So there you have it. Even if you don't have an Apple device, I know that some of these apps are also available in Android devices. Do some google search to make sure.

Now that I've shared my favorites, I want to know what's yours?

Happy Weekend

Till next time,
Grace
